In 1955 the Qualifying Cups were abandoned and all clubs entered an extended Scottish Cup competition directly, with league clubs exempt until the later rounds. To replace the qualifying tournaments the Scottish Supplementary Cup (North) and (South) tour naments were introduced. These lasted for three seasons before the Qualifying Cups were re-introduced.
