The FA Carlsberg Vase is a national knock-out competition for the country semi-professional clubs who are not eligible to enter the FA Trophy. Clubs from the 4th level of the pyramid (lower two divisions of the Isthmian League, Dr Martens League and Unibond League feeder leagues) down to about the 10th level (County leagues or equivalent) participate. The Vase was introduced in 1974 to replace the old Amateur Cup when the FA decided the designation 'amateur' no longer had any significant meaning.
