The LDV Vans Trophy is competed for by clubs from the lower two divisions of the Football League. Since 2000 eight clubs from the Nationwide Conference have also been allowed to enter. Prior to sponsorship it was called the Associate Members Cup. It replaced the Football League Trophy which was derived from the Anglo-Scottish Cup and Texaco Cup. Since 1994 the 'Golden Goal' sudden death rule has operated.
